He was born in Trabzon. He graduated from the Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine in 1994. He became a neurologist in 1999 at the KTU Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology, where he started teaching in 2000. He received the titles of Associate Professor in 2005 and Professor in 2010.
He worked at the multiple sclerosis clinic of the University of British Columbia in Canada in 2004 and 2011. He has 160 international publications, mostly based on real-life MS data. He is currently the faculty member in charge of the multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology unit of the KTU Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology.
